Born and raised in Central Florida. Lived and learned in Brazil + Berkeley. I’m an environmental planner and storyteller through maps, interviews, and design. I am inherently influenced by marginal aqueous spaces having spent formative years near River Valleys and Estuaries. I’m passionate about hydro-dynamic landscapes and the communities embedded in them.

As a doctoral student at UC Berkeley, I focus on policies and histories of environmental injustices and flood risk to examine legacies and systems of oppression that enable inequitable disaster risks impacting low-income communities in Deltaic landscapes. My methods focus on community participation, geospatial analysis, storiation, and advocacy.

Desire-Based Framework

“Desire-based research frameworks are concerned with understanding complexity, contradiction, and the self-determination of lived lives… Desire-based frameworks defy the lure to serve as “advertisements for power” by documenting not only the painful elements of social realities but also the wisdom and hope. Such an axiology is intent on depathologizing the experiences of dispossessed and disenfranchised communities so that people are seen as more than broken and conquered. This is to say that even when communities are broken and conquered, they are so much more than that—so much more that this incomplete story is an act of aggression.” - Eve Tuck (Tuck, 2009, pg. 219)

Disparate Impacts

Environmental decision-making and local land-use planning operate at the juncture of science, economics, politics, and special interests that place communities of color at special risk. In many instances, the only science involved is “political” science… “Sacrifice Zones” cheapen the lives and damaged the health of the most vulnerable people and places” - Robert Bullard (Bullard, 2012, pg. 7)
